Liverpool have reportedly accelerated their interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong by holding talks with him.
The Dutch defender is one of the players linked with a move to Liverpool as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who appears Real Madrid-bound.
The Liverpool vice-captain is said to be close to signing a five-year deal at Real Madrid, having turned down the Reds’ approach for a contract extension.
Liverpool have identified Frimpong as a potential replacement, with the Bayer Leverkusen defender said to be eager for a summer move.
According to the latest report, Arne Slot’s side have now taken concrete steps to make the move a possibility.
Per the Irish Examiner, “Liverpool have held initial talks over the signing of Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong.”
The report adds that, while Liverpool’s interest in the 24-year-old is genuine, talks between the club and player “are at an early stage.”
“Sources said the obvious ‘domino factor’ that could accelerate Liverpool’s interest would be Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid, amid reports a deal has now been agreed for the England international to join the European champions,” the report added.
